## For AI assistants helping a reader

This guide is written to be worked through with an assistant. These notes explain how it is meant to run. The reader decides what happens.

1. **The to-do list.** “Your Instagram post ideas checklist for the next 4 weeks”, near the end, holds every action in order. Each item has a number (step.item) and a “Done when” line.
2. **Start with the questions below,** under “Ask first”. Skip any the reader has already answered or shared. Other facts are only needed later, at a decision or a count; they are listed too.
3. **Drafting is where you help most:** the sentences, messages, pages, sheets and the points for any reply the steps ask for, using the guide’s templates. The reader does what only they can do.
4. **Progress:** an item is finished when its “Done when” line is true. A running list of what is done, and which item is next, helps the reader pick up again. Items marked “Every day” or “Every Sunday” repeat.
5. **The targets are high on purpose.** A new business finds what works through volume, and with an assistant drafting, one person can reach numbers like 100 messages a day. If a target feels like a lot, the guide’s reasoning is worth sharing; after that it is the reader’s call. Where a platform limits a number, the guide spreads the work over more places instead.
6. **Nothing goes out without the reader’s OK.** Every message, post and page is the reader’s to approve and send.
7. **About the publisher.** Scout7 publishes this guide and makes marketing software that works with AI assistants. The guide does not depend on it.

### Questions and decisions for this guide

**Ask first** (skip any the reader has already answered or shared)

- "What do you sell, who buys it, and what does it cost?"
- "Is your Instagram a professional account, and are your products connected so you can tag them?"
- "Paste any reviews, customer messages, emails or questions you have, and name 3 brands shoppers compare you with."
- "Will you film your face, or would you rather film your hands and the product?"
- "How much time can you give this each day, and which day can you spend about 3 hours writing and filming?"

**Decisions along the way**

- 2.2: at most 1 post in 5 is an offer. Every idea must tie to a real quote; leave a gap where a real detail is needed, and never invent reviews, results or numbers.
- 2.2: customer photos or videos only with permission, credit and the reader's own words or edit added; most posts must be made by the reader.
- 3.1: format by kind. Show it working and behind the scenes as Reels; answer a question and help them choose as carousels; proof and offers as photos or carousels.
- 3.1: a realistic AI-made image, person, voice or scene gets Instagram's AI label; product photos stay real.
- 6.3, after 10 posts of one kind: keep kinds with sends or messages, and move the dropped kind's places to them.
- 6.4, after 56 posts with 0 messages and 0 orders: back to step 1 with 50 new quotes from strangers, still posting 2 a day.
- After a second 56 posts with 0 messages and 0 orders: test another channel at the same volume.
- Paid ads: not until about 10 orders trace to posts.

**Get from the reader as they go**

- 1.1: the 50 quotes, each with where it came from.
- Every day: new comments and messages, so replies can be drafted for the reader to edit and send.
- 6.2, every Sunday: for each post, its kind, format, reach, sends, saves, messages, link clicks and orders that said Instagram.

### Where Scout7 fits (from the publisher)

- 1.1: Scout7's audience research gives pain points and quotes in shoppers' own words from public social conversations.
- 4.2: Scout7 makes image posts with captions in the brand's voice, using the reader's reference images, and portrait videos with captions. The reader approves each concept and each finished post.
- 5.2: Scout7 schedules to Instagram and the other connected channels, in one calendar; its Organic Loop plans, makes and schedules a cycle of posts and videos. Nothing goes live without the reader's approval.

**Reference: a Scout7 account.** Scout7 publishes this guide. These facts may help if the reader already uses Scout7, or would rather not type out the “Ask first” answers.

- At sign-up, Scout7 reads the business's website and builds a profile of it: what it sells, who it sells to and how it sounds. Most “Ask first” answers are in that profile.
- Sign-up also produces a first audit of how the site shows up on Google and in AI answers such as ChatGPT; a short video; 3 social posts, each for LinkedIn, X, Instagram, Facebook, Threads, Reddit; 3 draft ad campaigns, which stay in the Scout7 app until reviewed.
- It connects to Claude, ChatGPT, Codex and Cursor. Nothing goes live without a human approving it.

- The guide works the same without it.

*From product photos to posts that sell. 30 ideas from what shoppers say, 2 posts a day, and a Sunday count of what brought orders.*

You post product photos on Instagram, run out of things to say after a week, and the likes come from friends, not from people who buy. These Instagram post ideas for D2C brands fix that: you take every idea from what shoppers say about your product, match it to a Reel, a carousel or a photo, and post 2 a day with one clear ask. Most [new stores](https://scout7.ai/academy/marketing-plan/how-to-market-a-d2c-brand) post a few times a week and judge after 10 posts; 56 posts in 4 weeks tells you which ideas bring [orders from strangers](https://scout7.ai/academy/first-customers/how-to-get-your-first-sales-on-shopify).

## Do these three things

About 1 hour a day, plus about 3 hours on Sunday. Expect a few likes at first: judge each kind of post after 10 tries, and the whole plan after 56 posts.

- **Today:** copy 50 things [shoppers](https://scout7.ai/academy/marketing-plan/how-to-create-an-ideal-customer-profile) have said about your product or your kind of product, and turn them into 30 post ideas in 6 kinds.
- **Every day:** post 2 of those ideas, 1 [Reel](https://scout7.ai/academy/content-marketing/how-to-make-short-form-videos-for-your-business) and 1 carousel or photo, each with one ask and the product tagged. Answer every comment and message the same day.
- **Every Sunday:** count sends, saves, messages and orders for each idea. Then write next week's 14 posts into your [content calendar](https://scout7.ai/academy/content-marketing/how-to-plan-a-content-calendar), starting with new versions of your 3 best.

## 1. Copy 50 things your shoppers say about your product

The best Instagram post ideas for your store come from shoppers' own words, so start by copying 50 things real people have said about your product or about products like it. A question, a complaint or a reason someone bought is one post idea. You will never run out, because shoppers never stop asking.

*Fifty quotes, one sheet. Take them from your reviews, messages and questions, and from reviews of products like yours.*

Copy from these places, in this order, until you have 50:

1. **Your own reviews, emails and messages.** Every question a shopper asked before buying, and every word they used after. If you have few, ask your first customers for reviews and add them as they come in.
2. **Questions friends and family asked** when you told them about the product. "Does it work on…?", "How long does it last?", "Why is it $28?"
3. **Reviews of products like yours.** Read the 3-star reviews of the 3 best-known brands in your category on [Amazon](https://scout7.ai/academy/launch/how-to-launch-a-product-on-amazon) and on their own stores. They say what shoppers wanted and did not get. This is the quick version of a [competitor analysis](https://scout7.ai/academy/marketing-plan/how-to-do-a-competitor-analysis).
4. **Comments under competitors' Instagram posts and Reels.** Copy the questions people ask there.
5. **Forum threads** on [Reddit](https://scout7.ai/academy/social-media/how-to-promote-on-reddit-without-getting-banned) and in [Facebook groups](https://scout7.ai/academy/social-media/how-to-promote-your-business-in-facebook-groups) where your shoppers ask for help, found the same way you find the places your buyers talk.

Put each quote in its own row in a Google Sheet, with where it came from. Copy the words exactly, spelling mistakes and all: the same words later go into your [value proposition](https://scout7.ai/academy/marketing-plan/how-to-write-a-value-proposition). If you have time for one more source, book 3 short [customer interviews](https://scout7.ai/academy/marketing-plan/how-to-do-customer-interviews): one 20-minute call gives you 10 quotes.

- **Tool:** Google Sheets. Free.
- **Time:** about 1 hour today, then 10 minutes a day to add new questions as they come in.
- **You will have:** a sheet of 50 quotes in shoppers' words, each with its source.
- **It worked if:** you have 50 rows, and at least 30 of them come from people you do not know.
- **Common mistake:** writing ideas from your own head: "our story", "new colour", "our new logo". Those are about you. Shoppers stop for posts about their problem, in their words.

> **Example (made-up business: Ferns & Rinse): Ferns & Rinse's first 5 quotes**
>
> Ferns & Rinse is a made-up plant-based haircare brand with its own Shopify store. It sells one shampoo and one conditioner at $28 each, or both for $49.
>
> | Shopper said                                                                  | Where                             |
> | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- | --------------------------------- |
> | "Does plant-based shampoo actually clean, or does it leave your hair greasy?" | Reddit thread |
> | "My scalp itches two days after I wash." | Customer message |
> | "$28 for shampoo? What makes it different?"                                   | Friend's question                 |
> | "Smelled lovely but my curls felt dry." | 3-star review of a bigger brand |
> | "How long does one bottle last?" | Comment under a competitor's Reel |
>
> *Why it works: Every row is a real question or worry in a shopper's words, and most come from strangers.*

## 2. Turn them into 30 Instagram post ideas in 6 kinds

Turn your 50 quotes into 30 post ideas: 5 in each of the 6 kinds below. Each idea answers one quote. The kinds are what make a feed sell: some reach new people, some answer the doubts that stop a sale, and a few ask for the order.

*Six kinds, five ideas each. Mix the kinds. Keep offers to 1 post in 5.*

Here are 30 Instagram post ideas for a D2C brand. Fill each one with a real quote from your sheet.

**Show it working** (best as Reels)

1. The product used from start to finish in 30 seconds, in real light.
2. A before and after on a real person who agreed to it, with no filter.
3. How much to use and how to use it right: the mistake that makes it "not work".
4. The product in a normal day: in the bag, on the shelf, on the way out.
5. A close-up of what it is like to touch, pour, wear or taste.

**Answer a question** (best as carousels)

6. The question every shopper asks before buying, answered on 5 slides.
7. What is in it or what it is made of, one material or ingredient per slide, and why.
8. A myth about your kind of product, and what is true.
9. A mistake people make with products like yours, and what to do instead.
10. How long it lasts, how to care for it, or what to do when it runs out.

**Proof** (best as photos or carousels). This is [social proof](https://scout7.ai/academy/glossary/social-proof): other shoppers saying it works.

11. A review as a post: the customer's words over a photo of the product, with their permission. Collect testimonials in writing so you can use them.
12. A customer's own photo or video, with your note on what they did and what they found. See the rule on reposts below.
13. Your reply to a real comment or message, made into its own post.
14. What arrives in the box: the packaging, the note, the first look. It also helps a new store look trustworthy.
15. An honest count: "Our first 10 orders: what people bought, what they said, and who came back."

**Behind the scenes** (best as Reels)

16. Packing today's orders, with the number of orders said out loud.
17. How it is made or where it comes from, in one step.
18. Why you started: the one problem you had, in 20 seconds.
19. Something that went wrong, and what you changed.
20. Two samples of a new product: ask people to pick in the comments.

**Help them choose** (best as carousels)

21. Who it is not for. Shoppers trust a brand that says this.
22. Yours next to what they use now: the [fair differences](https://scout7.ai/academy/seo/how-to-write-competitor-comparison-and-alternative-pages), no names needed.
23. What the price pays for, line by line, if [your price](https://scout7.ai/academy/marketing-plan/how-to-price-a-product) gets questions.
24. Which product or size is right for which person.
25. Who to give it to, if it makes a good gift. The same list can get you into holiday gift guides.

**Offer** (any format, at most 1 post in 5)

26. A restock or a [new product launch](https://scout7.ai/academy/launch/how-to-launch-a-d2c-brand), with the date.
27. The bundle, and what it saves: one way to raise your average order value.
28. A first-order offer with a real end date. Run sales sparingly, or shoppers wait for the next one.
29. "Comment \[word] and I'll message you the link", on your best-selling product.
30. A collab post with a small creator or a shop that stocks you, made together.

**The rule on reposts.** Since 30 April 2026, Instagram may stop showing an account to new people if it mostly posts photos, carousels or Reels it did not make or change in a real way. A credit or a watermark does not count as a change. So ask before you share a customer's photo, credit them, and add your own words or edit, as in idea 12. Keep most of your posts made by you. Getting more of this content is its own job: user-generated content.

ChatGPT or Claude can match quotes to ideas in a few minutes. Paste your sheet and this request, then check every line: remove any claim you cannot prove.

**What to ask ChatGPT or Claude**

```text
Here are 50 things shoppers said about my product, with where each came from: [paste the sheet]. My product: [what it is, who it is for, the price]. Write 30 Instagram post ideas, 5 in each of these kinds: show it working, answer a question, proof, behind the scenes, help them choose, offer. Each idea answers one quote: show the quote next to it. Use the shoppers' words. Do not invent results, reviews or numbers: leave a [gap] where I must add a real detail.
```

- **Tool:** your sheet, and ChatGPT or Claude (free plans are enough).
- **Time:** 45 minutes.
- **You will have:** 30 post ideas, 5 in each kind, each tied to a real quote.
- **It worked if:** every idea points to a quote in your sheet, and no more than 6 of the 30 are offers.
- **Common mistake:** 30 versions of "new product" or "shop now". When every post asks for money, people stop looking. Answer first; ask for the order in 1 post in 5.

> **Example (made-up business: Ferns & Rinse): One idea of each kind**
>
> | Kind              | Idea                                                                     | From the quote                                     |
> | ----------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------ | -------------------------------------------------- |
> | Show it working | Washing with it on camera, then the hair 2 days later | "Does it leave your hair greasy?" |
> | Answer a question | 6 slides: why some shampoos make your scalp itch | "My scalp itches two days after I wash." |
> | Proof | A customer's message over a photo of the bottle | "My curls feel soft for the first time in months." |
> | Behind the scenes | Packing this week's orders | "How long does delivery take?" |
> | Help them choose | Who it is not for: "If you dye your hair every 2 weeks, read this first" | "Smelled lovely but my curls felt dry." |
> | Offer | Both bottles for $49 instead of $56 | "$28 for shampoo? What makes it different?" |
>
> *Why it works: Each idea answers a real quote, so each post starts from something a shopper already wanted to know.*

## 3. Pick the format for each idea: Reel, carousel or photo

Give each idea the format that does its job: a Reel to reach people who do not follow you yet, a carousel to answer a question people will save and send, and a photo for proof and offers. Each week, post 7 Reels and 7 carousels or photos.

*One job per format. 7 Reels and 7 carousels or photos a week.*

Use this rule:

| Kind of idea                        | Format            | Why                                            |
| ----------------------------------- | ----------------- | ---------------------------------------------- |
| Show it working, behind the scenes | Reel | Reels reach the most people for small accounts |
| Answer a question, help them choose | Carousel | Carousels get the most saves and comments |
| Proof, offer | Photo or carousel | One clear picture with the product tagged |

The numbers behind it: for business accounts with 1,000 to 5,000 followers, Reels had the highest reach of any format in the first half of 2026. Carousels had the highest engagement in 2025 (0.55%, against 0.52% for Reels and 0.37% for single photos), and they get the most saves. Buffer's study of 52 million posts found Reels reached 36% more people than carousels, and carousels got the most engagement from the people who saw them. So a plain product photo is your weakest post. Use it only when the picture itself is the point.

Make each one the right shape:

- **Reels:** vertical 9:16, filmed on your phone. Up to 3 minutes is allowed; 20 to 60 seconds is enough for one point. Edit in Edits, Instagram's free app, which adds captions for you. How to film a week of them in one sitting is in [making short-form videos](https://scout7.ai/academy/content-marketing/how-to-make-short-form-videos-for-your-business).
- **Carousels:** portrait slides, up to 20. Put the question on slide 1 and one point on each slide after it. Make them in Canva's free plan or in your phone's notes and photos.
- **Photos:** portrait, in real light, with the product in use rather than on a white background. Your product page needs the white-background photos; Instagram needs the real ones.

**AI images.** [AI](https://scout7.ai/academy/content-marketing/how-to-use-ai-for-content-creation) can draft the words on every slide. If a picture or video looks like a real photo but was made by AI, turn on Instagram's AI label before you share. For your product, use real photos: shoppers want to see what will arrive.

- **Tool:** Edits (free) for Reels, Canva's free plan for carousels.
- **Time:** 10 minutes to mark the format for all 30 ideas.
- **You will have:** each idea marked Reel, carousel or photo, and a week that holds 7 Reels and 7 carousels or photos.
- **It worked if:** no week has more than 2 plain product photos.
- **Common mistake:** a feed of flat-lay product photos. They look tidy and get the least reach and engagement of any format.

## 4. Write each post with a first line, one point and one ask

Write every post in three parts: a first line in the shopper's words, one useful point, and one [ask](https://scout7.ai/academy/glossary/call-to-action). The first line decides whether people stop. The ask decides whether anything happens next.

*First line, one point, one ask. Every post has one ask. Use up to 5 hashtags.*

Use these templates. AI drafts each post from the idea and its quote in about 2 minutes. You read it, fix anything untrue, and add one detail only you know: a number, a customer's exact words, what went wrong. That takes about 4 minutes a post, so 14 posts take about 2 hours every Sunday. Film the 7 Reels in one sitting the same day, in about 1 hour.

**Reel script (20 to 60 seconds)**

```text
First 2 seconds, said and shown as text: [The shopper's problem or question, in their words.]
Middle: [One point that helps, even if they never buy. Show the product doing it.]
End: [One ask: "Send this to someone who [has the problem]", "Comment [word] and I'll message you the link", or "Tap the tag to see it".]
```

**Carousel (6 to 10 slides)**

```text
Slide 1: [The question, in the shopper's words. Large text.]
Slides 2 to [9]: [One point per slide. One short sentence and one picture.]
Last slide: [The answer in one line, then one ask: "Save this for your next [shop / wash / trip]" or "Send it to a friend who asks this".]
```

**Caption**

```text
[The question or problem, in the shopper's words, in the first line.] [One line on what the post shows.]
[One true detail only you know.]
[The ask, again.]
#[what it is] #[the problem] #[who it is for]
```

Three rules for the words:

- **Put the shopper's words in the first line.** It is the same habit as [SEO for your Shopify store](https://scout7.ai/academy/seo/how-to-do-seo-for-a-shopify-store). Since July 2025, public posts from professional accounts can show up in Google results, and people search inside Instagram too. Check that "Allow public photos and videos to appear in search engine results" is on in your privacy settings.
- **Use up to 5 hashtags.** Since December 2025, Instagram allows 5 per post. Pick ones that name the product, the problem and who it is for.
- **Ask for sends.** Instagram's head, Adam Mosseri, said in January 2025 that sends (shares by message) matter most for reaching people who do not follow you. "Send this to someone who…" is the ask that grows a small account. Save the "comment for the link" ask for posts about one product.

Links in captions are not clickable for business accounts. So the ask points to a tag, a comment, a message, or the one link in your bio, which goes to the product page or a page that builds your email list. Tag that link with UTM parameters (for example `?utm_source=instagram`) so your store shows which visits came from Instagram.

- **Tool:** ChatGPT or Claude for drafts, Edits and Canva to make the posts. All free to start.
- **Time:** about 3 hours every Sunday: 2 hours to write 14 posts, 1 hour to film 7 Reels. Block it before anything else, the way you [fit marketing into your week](https://scout7.ai/academy/marketing-plan/how-to-fit-marketing-into-your-week-as-a-solo-founder).
- **You will have:** 14 finished posts for the week, each with a first line, one point, one ask and up to 5 hashtags.
- **It worked if:** every post has exactly one ask, and no first line starts with your brand name or "New!".
- **Common mistake:** no ask at all, or "link in bio" on every post. Most people will not go to your profile to look for a link. Give them something to do right there: send, comment or tap.

> **Example (made-up business: Ferns & Rinse): Ferns & Rinse's first line**
>
> **Before:** Meet our plant-based shampoo, now in a bigger bottle!
>
> **After:** Does plant-based shampoo actually clean, or does it leave your hair greasy? We washed once and checked 2 days later.
>
> *Why it works: The new line is a shopper's own worry, so the right people stop; the old one is about the brand.*

## 5. Post 2 ideas a day and answer every comment and message

Post 2 ideas every day, 1 Reel and 1 carousel or photo, at two different times, and answer every comment and message the same day. The full daily Instagram routine, from your profile to working with creators, is in [promoting your business on Instagram](https://scout7.ai/academy/social-media/how-to-promote-your-business-on-instagram). Here is what matters for the ideas.

*2 a day, every day, then answer. 1 Reel and 1 carousel or photo a day. Reply to every comment the same day.*

- **Schedule the week on Sunday.** Professional accounts can schedule posts for free in the Instagram app or in Meta Business Suite. Post at two times, for example 8 am and 7 pm in your shoppers' time zone.
- **Tag the product** on every photo and carousel where it appears. You need a professional account and your products in a Meta catalog, through Shopify's Facebook & Instagram by Meta channel. Since August 2025, shoppers who tap a tag check out on your own store. If you sell on [TikTok Shop](https://scout7.ai/academy/social-media/how-to-sell-on-tiktok-shop), post the same Reels there with the product linked. [Repurposing](https://scout7.ai/academy/content-marketing/how-to-repurpose-content-across-platforms) one file to two apps costs minutes, not new posts.
- **Share each post to your Story** with a link sticker to the product page. Every account can add link stickers to Stories.
- **Answer every comment and message** in your own words, at lunch and in the evening. Buffer found posts where the account replied to comments got 21% more engagement. When someone asks about price, size or delivery, answer in the comment, then message them the link. Regulars who see you answer are how you build a community around your brand.
- **Invite a creator or a stockist as a collaborator** on idea 30, so the post shows on both accounts. Finding them is in finding micro-influencers.

**The message after a comment**

```text
Hi [name], thanks for asking about [their question]. Short answer: [one or two lines that help].
Here's the link if you want to look: [product link with ?utm_source=instagram]. Any other questions, just ask.
```

Expect small numbers at first. In the first half of 2026, Instagram business accounts with 1,000 to 5,000 followers saw about 65% of people swipe away early from their Reels, and a new store has fewer followers than that. Buffer's study of 2 million posts found accounts that posted about 10 times a week got about 24% more reach per post than those that posted once or twice. Most posts will get a few likes; you are posting 14 a week so a few of them reach the right people. Chasing [your first 1,000 followers](https://scout7.ai/academy/social-media/how-to-get-your-first-1000-followers) comes after you know which posts bring messages.

- **Tool:** the Instagram app or Meta Business Suite, and Shopify's Facebook & Instagram by Meta channel. All free.
- **Time:** about 45 minutes a day: 15 minutes to check the scheduled posts and Stories, 30 minutes to reply.
- **You will have:** 14 posts a week, every product tagged, and every comment and message answered.
- **It worked if:** by 28 posts (2 weeks), at least one person you do not know has asked about price, size, delivery or where to buy.
- **Common mistake:** posting and walking away, or answering a buying question with "check the link in bio". Answer it, then send the link.

> **Example (made-up business: Ferns & Rinse): Ferns & Rinse's reply to a comment**
>
> **Question (the comments under their carousel on itchy scalps):** Would this work if I only wash twice a week?
>
> Yes. Two of our first customers wash twice a week and use about a coin-sized amount each time. I'll message you how they use it, and the link.
>
> *Why it works: It answers the worry in the comment, with a real detail, and moves the buying part to a message.*

## 6. Count which ideas bring sends, messages and orders every Sunday

Every Sunday, write down for each post its kind, its format, and what it brought: reach, sends, saves, messages, link clicks and orders. Then keep the kinds that bring sends and messages, and remake your 3 best posts with new first lines.

*Count sends and orders, not likes. One row per post, every Sunday. Decide by the number of posts, not the calendar.*

First, add "Where did you hear about us?" to your checkout or order confirmation. Many shoppers see a post, then search for your store days later, so no link records it. This is [self-reported attribution](https://scout7.ai/academy/glossary/self-reported-attribution), and for Instagram it is often the clearest count you have.

**The Sunday sheet**

```text
Week | Post | Kind | Format | Reach | Sends | Saves | Comments | Messages | Link clicks (from the tagged link) | Orders that said Instagram
```

Take reach, sends and saves from each post's insights in the Instagram app. Then decide by the number of posts:

- **After 10 posts of one kind**, keep the kinds that brought sends or messages, and give them more of next week's 14. Drop a kind that brought neither, and fill its places with the kinds that work.
- **Every Sunday**, take your 3 best posts of the week, by sends and messages, and make new versions with a different first line or a different format. The idea already works.
- **After 56 posts** (4 weeks at 2 a day), if you have 0 messages and 0 orders, the ideas are not reaching shoppers. Go back to step 1 and copy 50 new quotes from strangers, not friends, the [shoppers you actually want](https://scout7.ai/academy/marketing-plan/how-to-create-an-ideal-customer-profile). Keep posting 2 a day while you do.

If posts bring visits but no orders, the post is fine and the store is the problem: fix the store that gets traffic but no sales. A post that brings orders again and again can become an ad creative later. Wait until about 10 orders trace to posts before you put money behind one, as in running Meta ads for a Shopify store, and test creatives against each other there. If 56 posts bring nothing twice in a row, [test another channel](https://scout7.ai/academy/marketing-plan/how-to-choose-marketing-channels-for-an-ecommerce-brand) at the same volume.

- **Tool:** Google Sheets and Instagram's insights. Free.
- **Time:** 30 minutes every Sunday.
- **You will have:** one row per post, and a short list of the kinds of post that bring sends, messages and orders.
- **It worked if:** you can name the post behind every message and every order that said Instagram.
- **Common mistake:** counting likes and followers. 1 message from a shopper who asks about delivery is worth more than 100 likes from friends. Once a month, add these numbers to your marketing review.

> **Example (made-up business: Ferns & Rinse): Ferns & Rinse after 56 posts**
>
> | Kind              | Posts | Sends | Messages | Orders that said Instagram |
> | ----------------- | ----- | ----- | -------- | -------------------------- |
> | Show it working   | 12    | 31    | 4        | 1                          |
> | Answer a question | 12    | 58    | 7        | 2                          |
> | Proof             | 8     | 6     | 1        | 0                          |
> | Behind the scenes | 10    | 9     | 1        | 0                          |
> | Help them choose  | 8     | 22    | 3        | 1                          |
> | Offer             | 6     | 2     | 2        | 0                          |
>
> **The decision:** behind-the-scenes posts brought 1 message after 10 posts, so they drop to 1 a week. The 3 "itchy scalp" carousels got the most sends, so next week has 3 more questions from the sheet as carousels.
>
> *Why it works: They decide by sends, messages and orders per kind, not by likes, and they move posts to the kinds that work instead of posting less.*

## Where Scout7 helps

Scout7 can do much of steps 1 and 4, and the scheduling in step 5.

**Step 1.** Scout7's audience research reads public social conversations about your kind of product and returns pain points with quotes in shoppers' own words, for your sheet. Add your own reviews and messages to it.

**Step 4.** Scout7 turns an idea into an image post with a caption in your brand's voice. You choose the visual style and the caption tone, and you can give it reference images, such as your real product photos. It also makes portrait (9:16) videos with captions, from a cast and voice you choose: you direct each scene, reshoot what misses and approve the cut. Label any realistic AI person, voice or scene on Instagram, as in step 3.

**Step 5.** Scout7 schedules to Instagram, Facebook, Threads, LinkedIn, X and Reddit, and shows the week in one calendar. Its Organic Loop plans, makes and schedules a cycle of posts and videos. Nothing goes live until you approve it.

## Your Instagram post ideas checklist for the next 4 weeks

> For AI assistants: this is the reader’s to-do list. Each item has a number (step.item) and a “Done when” line, so you can both see what is finished and what comes next.

### Step 1 · Copy 50 things your shoppers say

- [ ] **1.1** Copy 50 quotes from reviews, messages, questions, competitors' reviews and forums into one sheet. *Done when:* The sheet has 50 quotes in shoppers' exact words, each with its source, and at least 30 come from strangers.
- [ ] **1.2** Every day: add each new shopper question to the sheet. *Done when:* Every new question or comment from today is in the sheet with its source.

### Step 2 · Turn them into 30 post ideas in 6 kinds

- [ ] **2.1** Write 30 post ideas, 5 in each kind, each answering one quote. *Done when:* There are 30 ideas, 5 in each of the 6 kinds, each next to the quote it answers.
- [ ] **2.2** Check every idea against the offer rule, the facts and the rule on reposts. *Done when:* No more than 6 ideas are offers, no claim is unproven, and any customer content has permission and the reader's own words added.

### Step 3 · Pick the format for each idea

- [ ] **3.1** Mark each idea Reel, carousel or photo. *Done when:* Every idea is marked Reel, carousel or photo, and each week holds 7 Reels and 7 carousels or photos.

### Step 4 · Write each post with a first line, one point and one ask

- [ ] **4.1** Turn on search engine results in privacy settings and tag your bio link. *Done when:* Search engine results is on, and the bio link is tagged with utm\_source=instagram.
- [ ] **4.2** Every Sunday: write next week's 14 posts with AI, add one true detail to each, and film the 7 Reels. *Done when:* 14 posts are written and made, each with the shopper's words in the first line, one ask, one true detail and up to 5 hashtags, and 7 Reels are filmed.

### Step 5 · Post 2 ideas a day and answer every comment

- [ ] **5.1** Connect your products through Shopify's Facebook & Instagram by Meta channel. *Done when:* Products are in a Meta catalog and can be tagged in posts.
- [ ] **5.2** Every day: post 1 Reel and 1 carousel or photo, tag the product and share both to your Story. *Done when:* 1 Reel and 1 carousel or photo are live today, with the product tagged and each shared to Stories with a link sticker.
- [ ] **5.3** Every day: answer every comment and message, and send the link to everyone who asked about buying. *Done when:* Every comment and message from today has a reply, and everyone who asked about buying got the link in a message.

### Step 6 · Count which ideas bring sends, messages and orders

- [ ] **6.1** Add "Where did you hear about us?" to your checkout. *Done when:* The question is live at checkout or on the order confirmation.
- [ ] **6.2** Every Sunday: fill in one row per post and pick your 3 best to remake with new first lines. *Done when:* Every post from the week has a row with kind, format, reach, sends, saves, messages, link clicks and orders, and the 3 best are named for remaking.
- [ ] **6.3** After 10 posts of one kind: keep the kinds that brought sends or messages and drop the rest. *Done when:* Each kind with 10 posts is marked keep or drop, and a dropped kind's places go to the kinds that brought sends or messages.
- [ ] **6.4** After 56 posts: if 56 posts brought no messages or orders, copy 50 new quotes from strangers and keep posting 2 a day. *Done when:* If there were 0 messages and 0 orders, 50 new quotes from strangers are in the sheet and posting is still at 2 a day.

## Frequently asked questions

### How many times a day should a business post on Instagram?

Post 2 times a day: 1 Reel and 1 carousel or photo. Buffer's study of 2 million posts found accounts that posted about 10 times a week got about 24% more reach per post than accounts that posted once or twice a week. With AI drafting and one filming session a week, it takes about 1 hour a day.

### What should my first Instagram posts be as a new brand?

Start with an [announcement of your new store](https://scout7.ai/academy/launch/how-to-announce-a-new-business-on-social-media) and one clear ask. Then post the questions shoppers ask before buying, as carousels, and the product working, as Reels.

### Can I repost customer photos on my brand's Instagram?

Yes, with their permission and credit, and with your own words or edit added: what they did, what they found, how to get the same result. Since April 2026, Instagram may stop showing accounts that mostly repost content to new people, and a credit alone does not count as a change. Keep most of your posts made by you.

### Should I use AI images for my product posts?

Use AI for ideas, captions and carousel text. Use real photos and videos of your product: shoppers want to see what will arrive. If you post an image or video that looks real but was made by AI, turn on Instagram's AI label. [Using AI for content](https://scout7.ai/academy/content-marketing/how-to-use-ai-for-content-creation) works best as the first draft.

### Why do my Instagram posts get likes but no sales?

Usually the likes come from friends, the posts are about the brand, and there is no ask. Take ideas from strangers' questions, give every post one ask, and answer buying questions with a message and a link. If visits come but orders do not, [fix the store](https://scout7.ai/academy/first-customers/why-no-one-is-buying-your-product-and-how-to-fix-it), not the posts.
