Backlink

A backlink is a link from another website to yours.

Search engines treat links from trusted, related sites as a sign that your page is worth showing. One link from a known site in your field counts for more than many links from unrelated sites. The words on the link are its anchor text.

A new site usually has none, which is one reason SEO starts slowly. Earn links you can get this week: partners, podcast guest pages, lists in your field and data others want to quote. Get backlinkssoon every week, and watch them arrive in Google Search Console.
