llms.txt
llms.txt is a proposed file on your website that gives AI tools a short, plain guide to your most useful pages.
It usually lives at yoursite.com/llms.txt and is written in Markdown: a title, a short summary, then links to key pages with a note on each. It was proposed in September 2024 and is a proposal, not a rule any search engine requires.
Google says you do not need it to appear in AI Overviews. It is quick to add, so add one if your site allows it. Put most of your time into clear pages, schema markup and a correct robots.txt. Add llms.txt and schema markup in the same sitting.
